Fifteen years ago, Michael Dow MSPT/CEO and Clinical Director of Amity Physical Therapy carved out and grew his practice the right way – devoted, caring treatment of patients from pediatrics to geriatrics. Now, along with his clinical partner, Kyle Branday MSPT/CDN, the practice has grown to three Greater New Haven offices and acknowledged as one of the finest physical therapy centers in Southern Connecticut. The pair has achieved numerous professional awards and accolades from the medical orthopedic community.
Highlighting its 15th year, Amity Physical Therapy has launched a unique Physical Therapy/Fitness Training/Health & Wellness Division—a one stop practice embracing certified fitness trainers, complete rehab and injury prevention treatment, along with dietary and nutritional programs. “This comprehensive service is long overdue,” said Michal Dow, founder of Amity PT. “It’s the best of both worlds. We can monitor therapy patients, taking them from injury to normal movement activity while our fitness clients strive for performance, strength, conditioning and speed.”
Fitness participants undergo a thorough movement screening – a head-to-toe quantitative orthopedic screen conducted by licensed therapists. This diagnostic technique reveals joint or soft tissue restriction, strength, imbalances or movement sequencing considerations. From there a personal trainer coordinates with a physical therapist to create a comprehensive training program for each client.
Always ahead of the curve in his profession, Michael Dow has outfitted the three offices with a breakthrough functional training system, the Synrgy 360, from LifeFitness, a global supplier of quality fitness equipment. “From the inception of this practice I was determined to spare no expense, but to install high-quality equipment that’s modern and reliable. We take pride in the architectural aesthetic of our facilities, inclusive of functionality and flow.” He added, “What people, see, feel, and use are extremely important. Our equipment reaches all patients, pediatrics to geriatrics. We have to vary our treatment styles and provide the tools to support it.” Dow concluded, “Summing up our fifteen years: we expediently return injured people back to normal activities and now are helping others in vital physical fitness training. It’s all about our patients and clients. We live for that.”
Michael Dow MSPT/CEO received his degree from Sacred Heart University.
