Eleven students from Amity Middle School in Bethany were recognized by the Connecticut Writing Project (CWP) that sponsors the Connecticut Student Writers, a magazine established in 1987 by the CWP to honor excellence in writing by students from kindergarten through high school. Three honored writers and two artist’s original work will be published in the 2017 Connecticut Student Writers Magazine. These students include seventh graders, Ashely Dorais, Nora Youtz, and Maggie Liu, and eighth graders, Allison Su and Wendy Zhang. The middle school also received six honorable mentions, which include Zachary Garfinkle, Laurel Maus, Kaitlyn Pryor, Gabby Wincherhern, and Alice Youtz from the seventh grade, as well as Natalie Wang from the eighth grade.
To honor the newly published writers, the Connecticut Writing Project will host a Student Recognition Night on May 11, 2017 at the Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts, on the campus of the University of Connecticut, Storrs, with a keynote address from Gina Barreca, a UCONN professor. Selected writers will be chosen to represent their grade by reading their winning entries, and all writers, featured artists, and their teachers will be honored and presented with certificates and copies of the magazine.
We congratulate all of the students that submitted work.
