AMSB Science Club

AMSB Science Club

 

The Science Club had a very successful season, as both the Science Bowl and Science Olympiad teams did extremely well for their first year competing.  Science Club met every other Friday after school during the school year.

At the Science Bowl competition held at University of Connecticut, a team made up of Andy Kim, Joshua Feuerstein, Jonathan Fischman, and Nikhil Mali, and captained by Arnav Paliwal, received fourth place in the preliminary rounds before making quarterfinalists in a single elimination tournament.  Also, the team of Kevin Lu, Wendy Zhang, Peter Scully, and Allison Su, captained by Megan Ding, received 10th place in the preliminary rounds, before advancing to the second round of the tournament.  There were 32 teams in total.

At the Science Olympiad competition held at Irving A. Robbins Middle School, Amity Middle School-Bethany got a trophy for the best new team.  Allison Su and Wendy Zhang won first in Food Science; Peter Scully, Arnav Paliwal, and Jonathan Fischman won fourth in Bottle Rocket; Allison Su and Andy Kim won fourth in Disease Detectives; Nikhil Mali and Hannah Skiba won fifth in Hovercraft; Allison Su and Andy Kim won sixth in Microbe Mission; and Peter Scully and Megan Ding won seventh in Fast Facts.
