Bittersweet Wreaths – Saturday, October 2, 1:30 p.m.
Bring your own clippers and gardening gloves for this workshop led by Ranger Dawn. When you collect these beautiful orange-berried vines, you’re actually helping the park by removing this invasive plant species. Create a beautiful fall wreath for your home or a gift. FEE $6. Infinity and Beyond – Friday, October 8, 7 pm
Join Ranger Jeremy for an out of this world event. Together you will learn about the different planets, stars and constellations that comprise our night sky. Relax under the stars and work on some unique space related arts and crafts! All while watching Draconid Meteor Shower, nature’s greatest light show. Mushroom Hike – Sunday, October 17, 1:30 p.m.
Put the “fun” in fungi with this themed nature hike lead by Ranger Evelyn! Explore the diversity of decomposers and see how many different kinds of mushroom you can find. Join the Nature Center and Ansonia Public Library for this 4 -week pre-school/toddler program for children ages 2-5 with their adult explorer. These classes are loosely structured, influenced by the seasons and the interests of the children. We will go outside to explore nature and read a story every class so please dress for the weather. Classes will end with a light snack and conversation. TUITION: $40 for all 4 weeks, due at the first class. Class is limited to 10 children. Contact us at email@example.com to register in advance.
AUTUMN FESTIVAL – Saturday, October 23, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Celebrate this wonderful season with the staff and the Friends of the Ansonia Nature Center (FANCI). Take a ride through our park in our horse-drawn story wagon, where you’ll hear some Halloween tales! Walk our haunted trail to the golden rod maze. Enjoy lunch from one of our food vendors. Learn about bats, spiders, and owls from one of the nature center’s naturalists! Visit the Nature Shop table to buy some creepy and crawly nature-related items. Enjoy nature-related exhibitors and vendors. You can try your hand at pumpkin painting, get your face painted, and make some original crafts. All proceeds will benefit the Nature Center’s exhibits. CT’s Wild Turkey – Saturday, November 13, 1:30 pm
CT’s Wild Turkey is an iconic symbol of Thanksgiving. The Native Americans as well as early settlers relied on the turkey for survival by hunting the species to near extinction. In the 20th Century there was a successful relocation program that increased the number of turkeys to a large population. Join us on a brief talk and hike to find the illusive wild birds. Full Moon Hike with Stargazing. Join Ranger Evelyn for a hike by the light of the full moon, then relax under the stars for an astronomy lesson with Ranger Jeremy, who will be talking about the partial lunar eclipse that will have occurred earlier that morning. WINTER WREATH WORKSHOP – Saturday, December 4, 10 am
Celebrate winter and the festive season as you create a wreath from fresh locally grown greens, then decorate your masterpiece with natural trimmings. Enjoy some warm mulled cider and a cookie too!
