Art News from Beecher Road School

Art News from Beecher Road School

Beecher Road Schools’ 9th school wide celebration of the Arts will take place from June 6-10. Recycling is the theme with a focus on plastic. Collections for plastic caps and bottles will be made in each classroom as well as collection barrels in North Lobby, the Cafeteria Hallway and South School.

A band concert, a school wide performance by Dennis Waring, and Artsnight will be some of the highlights during the week along with our daily fashion change in artistic and creative use of recyclables. Dr. Waring’s emphasis is on group interaction and participation. His music points to history, social studies, science and art. Many of the instruments are made from recyclable objects.

The school wide sculpture exhibit this year will be using plastic bottles arranged in columns to hang from the branches of trees throughout the school campus.

Look for our students’ artwork in New Haven again this year. We are active participants in the Elementary Art Program with Yale University Properties. Students from Beecher Road School, with the support of Art Teachers Linda Acheson and Ashley Wagner, will be exhibiting visual interpretations of “spring” with The Country School in Madison.

In May all fifth grade classes at Beecher Road School will be visiting the Yale University Art Gallery focusing on light. Students will use thei observations at the museum to create innovative pieces of writing and art work.

Students at Beecher Road School are also creating pieces of art celebrating the l00th birthday of Massaro Farm.

Superintendent Guy Stella stated: “The Arts permeate all aspects of learning at Beecher Road School. The children and teachers are constantly engaged in creating multiple pieces of art that adorn the walls of the school as well as in working on multiple projects that promote the Arts! Everyone is so busy!”
