Beth Heller is running for re-election – she’s been Woodbridge First Selectman since 2017. She has served on the Board of Selectmen continuously since 2008, and was Deputy First Selectman from 2009 to 2017. In April 2013, following the death of First Selectman Ed Sheehy, Beth was elected by the Board of Selectmen to complete his term and serve as First Selectman through June 2013.
Beth is vice chair of the South Central Regional Council of Governments (SCRCOG), having previously served as its secretary.
Before joining the Board of Selectmen, Beth served as secretary of the Library Commission (1994 to 1998), and subsequently served for nearly a decade as chair of the Board of Fire Commissioners (1999 to 2008). She was a Woodbridge Deputy Registrar of Voters from 1997 to 1998, and a Woodbridge Registrar of Voters from 1998 to 2008. She is a past co-chair of the Woodbridge Community Council, and co-founder of the popular “Summer Concerts on the Green.”
Beth is a graduate of the Roger Williams School of Nursing and a registered nurse licensed in Connecticut. During her active nursing career, she was a charge nurse at Roger Williams Hospital in Providence and at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Boston. She is a member of the Board of Corporators of Griffin Hospital, a position she has held since 2009. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of the East Side Burying Ground Association in Woodbridge.
While raising her family in Woodbridge, Beth was active in the Beecher Road School PTO (Past Treasurer), the Amity Junior High-Bethany PTO (Past Treasurer), and the Amity Regional High School PTO. Beth and her husband Dr. Allen Heller, have been married since 1976 (almost 41 years) and have lived in Woodbridge since 1992. Their three sons are all graduates of the Woodbridge and Amity school systems: David (Amity Class of ‘98); Richard (Class of ‘03); and Stephen (Class of ‘06).
