Incumbent Candidate, Board of Selectmen
Beth Heller has been a member of the Woodbridge Board of Selectmen since 2008, and Deputy First Selectman since 2009. In April 2013, following the untimely death of First Selectman Ed Sheehy, Beth was elected by the Board of Selectmen to finish his term as First Selectman.
Before joining the Board of Selectmen, Beth served as secretary of the Library Commission (1994 to 1998), and subsequently served for a decade as chair of the Board of Fire Commissioners (1998 to 2008). She was a Woodbridge Deputy Registrar of Voters from 1997 to 1998, and a Woodbridge Registrar of Voters from 1998 to 2008. She is a past co-chair of the Woodbridge Community Council, and was instrumental in initiating the well-known “Concerts on the Green”.
Beth is also an active member of the Amity Animal Rescue Fund (AARF), and she is serving a second term as a Corporator of Griffin Hospital.
Beth is a graduate of the Roger Williams School of Nursing and a registered nurse licensed in Connecticut. During her nursing career, she worked as a charge nurse at Roger Williams General Hospital in Providence and at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Boston.
While raising her family in Woodbridge, Beth was active in the Beecher Road School PTO (Past Treasurer), the Amity Junior High-Bethany PTO (Past Treasurer), and the Amity Regional High School PTO.
Beth and her husband Allen have been married since 1976, and have lived in Woodbridge for 23 years. Allen, a physician-scientist formerly on the academic faculty at Harvard Medical School, recently retired from his position as vice president, medical science at Bayer Pharmaceuticals. He is currently pursuing a graduate degree in public health. They have three sons, all graduates of the Woodbridge and Amity school systems: David is a physician and internist now working in Uganda on a Global Health Fellowship. Richard is a practicing CPA and an avid distance runner living in Boulder, Colorado. Stephen is a graduate of the University of New Haven with a BS in Criminal Justice.
