Beth–Wood Baseball League hosts an 8–year old Friendship Tournament every year where Teams throughout the State of CT Team compete in a friendly competition during late June/entire month of July. This year we had 17 Teams compete – we divided these Teams into an American League & National League Division, predicated on geographic boundaries.
The Tournament consists of each Team playing a total of 8 games in a round robin format – then after 8 games, each Team gets seeded according to their records to play in a Single Elimination Tournament at Woodbridge’s Acorn Hill complex which began play on July 22nd and the Finals were played July 29th. The Beth – Wood 8’s Team was seeded 5th overall in the American League but played tremendous baseball by defeating the 5th, 1st and 2nd seeds to capture the American League Championship on July 28th. They then faced off against Milford (who captured the National League championship) on July 29th to determine the overall Tournament Champion – however, Beth – Wood’s run ended as Milford came out victorious with a hard fought 9 – 6 win.
This is the first time since 2009 that a Beth – Wood Team has reached the Finals of this Tournament – this Team of 13 Players was a very special group of kids who came together and created quite a bit of excitement in the entire community, with fans coming out in droves to cheer them on.
