Britton To Move On

Amity High School Principal Charles Britton in a letter to parents and students on Friday, March 27, announced that he will be leaving his post at the end of the school year and join Sacred Heart University as assistant professor of education in the Department of Educational Leadership and Literacy. “I look forward to spending the second half of my career as a professor, researcher and scholar,” he wrote.

In his letter he finds warm words for the Amity community, even holding out the possibility to return in the role of a parent. “Who knows, Chase and Cassidy may well end up right here,” he wrote. “I can think of no better reason to search for a home in Bethany, Orange or Woodbridge.”

Britton has been at the helm of the school for the past eight years, providing structure and stability through months of searching for a new superintendent. It also was a time of remarkable recognition for the school, its students and faculty, culminating last year in the national Blue Ribbon recognition.

“Keep up the great work, Amity,” he closed his letter. “Your efforts and willingness to support the work of Amity teachers is quite literally making a world of difference.”
