I am shocked at Republican candidate Cathy Wick’s recent comments criticizing yet another volunteer member of our Town’s boards and commissions. Her recent comments regarding the Chairman of the Human Services Commission betray either a wholesale lack of understanding about the role of this commission – the chairman neither hires nor supervises part-time Town employees – or they indicate that despite that understanding she’s willing to mislead.
Beyond false accusations of nepotism, Wick is wrong about simple facts like names and titles – things that could easily have been checked for accuracy. This makes me wonder how many other Wick campaign assertions are similarly sloppy in their sourcing.
Mary Lee Barker, Chairman of the Human Services Commission, has volunteered countless hours for many years to the work of that department, the PTO at Beecher Road School, the middle school, and the high school, as well as to the Friends of the Woodbridge Library. That Wick seems consistently and repeatedly willing to vilify the community service of volunteers is beyond me, yet consistent with her months-long, desperate effort to condemn every aspect of the Town’s current administration.
I am confident that voters will respond to these divisive campaign statements accordingly on Election Day, Monday, May 4th, by re-electing the Democratic team of First Selectman Ellen Scalettar.
