Celebrate Earth Day with Massaro Farm

The month of April offers many ways to celebrate Earth Day and the onset of spring!

Rock Earth Day with Team Melonhead and help us earn a $20,000 match

Celebrate Earth Day 2021 by walking, hiking or cycling as a member of the “Massaro Melonheads” team in the annual Rock to Rock Earth Day fundraising event.  Join our award-winning team of walkers and riders by a) logging miles on your own during the month of April or b) showing up on Saturday, April 24 for socially distanced walks/rides.

This year, we received a generous challenge grant of $20,000; you can help us secure that grant by fundraising with an easy-to-use online platform.  Register on RocktoRock.org or contact Caty Poole at caty@massarofarm.org for assistance.

April 10 Day of Service

Volunteer for our annual spring Day of Service, Saturday, April 10 from 10:00am-1:00pm.  This event is held in conjunction with Earth Day.  It’s the perfect time to help us tidy up the farm for guests and get things in order for planting.  Sign up at RocktoRock.org.

Subscribe to our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Program

Nourish yourself and your family by subscribing for a 10- or 20-week CSA share of our fresh organic produce.  Distribution set to begin in mid-June.  Supporting an organic farm like ours sequesters carbon, creates natural habitat and reduces your carbon footprint.  We have already started planting summer crops so it’s important for you to sign up now before we sell out.  Subscribing to our CSA also protects open space, creates jobs and supports the donation of thousands of pounds of fresh produce to hunger relief each year.  Distribution begins in mid-June.  Full share – $695; Half share – $370. www.MassaroFarm.org/join-our-csa.

Get involved in a Community Garden

The farm manages 13 community gardens in Ansonia, Derby, Seymour, Shelton and Oxford.  We welcome both new and experienced gardeners to help oversee these vegetable gardens, including watering, weeding and harvesting.  We supply all the materials; you set your own schedule!  Take the produce home or add it to our donations for hunger relief partners.  Visit our site for more details or to sign up: www.MassaroFarm.org/community-gardens.

Take the Food Solutions New England (FSNE) 21-Day Equity Challenge

Join the farm in taking the FSNE pledge to build the capacity for our region to produce at least 50% of our food by 2060 while supporting healthy food for all, sustainable farming and fishing, and thriving communities.  The 21-Day Equity Challenge which begins on April 5, invites participants to deepen their understanding of, and willingness to confront, racism for twenty-one consecutive days in April of 2021.  Explore and sign up at www.foodsolutionsne.org.
