Rabbi Richard Eisenberg Guest Darshan

Rabbi Tilsen has invited Rabbi Eisenberg, formerly of Congregation B’nai Jacob, to speak during services on Saturday morning May 4.

Holocaust Speaker

Professor David Pettigrew will give a talk on Saturday, May 11, entitled “Theresienstadt Camp – Ghetto:  A Strategy of Deception,” at 1:00 pm, following services and the weekly kiddush lunch.  A professor of philosophy at Southern Connecticut State University, Prof. Pettigrew is a member of the Connecticut Department of Education Holocaust and Genocide Education Advisory Committee.  Sponsored by BEKI Sisterhood, this event commemorates Yom HaShoah.

Art and Kabbalah Meet in Paintings

Sandra Valabregue, a painter and independent scholar who specializes in medieval Kabbalah and philosophy, will give an artist’s talk on Saturday, May 18 at 12:45 pm.  Her exhibition at BEKI, called “Circles in the Tree,” shows her recent focus on Jewish topics such as Angels, Talisman, Hamsah and the sefirotic tree.  She calls this project “Partzufim and Ilanot” (divine faces and trees).  This show runs through June 2.  Born in France, Valabregue obtained her M.A. in Philosophy from the Sorbonne, an M.A. in art from the Beaux Arts de Paris, and a PhD in Jewish Thought from Hebrew University.

Lag BeOmer Kumsitz

BEKI’s annual Kumsitz Campfire Singalong for all ages will be held Wednesday, May 22 from 6:15 – 8:30 pm at a member family’s home in the Westville section of New Haven.  Bring a blanket or chair to sit on.  Feel free to bring musical instruments.  For location information:  office@beki.org or 203.389.2108.
