Congratulations to eighth grade students, Liam Coyne and Hannah Guo, who were selected to receive this year’s Connecticut Association of Boards of Education (CABE) Award. This award is presented each year to young men and women attending schools within CABE’s membership, who exhibit exemplary leadership qualities.
The Gold Team selected Liam Coyne as this year’s CABE award winner. Liam is an exceptional student who takes his learning seriously. He is a leader both in and out of the classroom. His respectful participation and compassionate nature allow him to facilitate collaborative leadership, pushing everyone to take on an active role in the classroom. His interest and intrinsic motivation led to his creation of a Stock Market Club at AMSB, where students can learn about the stock market and investing. Outside of school, Liam is an active member of the community. During COVID, he assisted his brother with their own PPE drive for the Columbus House in New Haven. They collected needed supplies for those without homes. He is also an avid squash player and has competed in U.S. Squash Junior Tournaments in CT, NY, MA, and RI. Liam’s outgoing and compassionate personality, along with his strong abilities as a student, truly represent an Amity student being his best self.
Team Black teachers selected Hannah Guo for the CABE Student Leadership Award. Hannah has maintained strong grades in her time at AMSB. Hannah is an enthusiastic learner. She leads class discussions and offers insightful comments. Her enthusiasm for learning and her commitment to our classroom community offers a strong example for others to follow. Last year, she was the seventh grade student representative on our school’s Parent Teacher Student Organization. Outside of school, Hannah competes in gymnastics and plays piano. Hannah has been doing Xcel gymnastics for five years. Two years ago, she won first in her age group at state championships and went to New England regionals where she won third place in her age group. Hannah is also a musician and has been playing piano for six years now. She is currently on level 7 of the RCM music program. In this program, Hannah scored a 93 which is ranked First Class Honors with Distinction.
