Dan Cowan decided to make Connecticut his permanent home after serving in the U.S. Navy in Groton. In 2011 Dan, his wife and youngest daughter moved from Stratford to Woodbridge with the expectation that she will graduate with the Amity High School class of 2027.
After starting his Career as a machinist mate in the US Navy, Dan then became a service technician of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. He then went on to teach the operation and repair of these systems to students and adults at the Porter and Chester Institute while he concurrently earned his BS in Mechanical Engineering in 2011.
For the past 13 years, Dan has overseen commercial projects related to HVAC, Refrigeration and Pumping systems taking them from concept and financing through the build. Dan is currently a Professional Engineer in the business development department with EMCOR Services New England Mechanical.
Dan is a member of several industry-related societies, including the CT Association of Plumbing Engineers and the CT Association of Energy Engineers. In 2010 he was the founding president of the University of New Haven chapter of ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers). He was ASHRAE Student Activities Chair for 4 years, has been Refrigeration Chair since 2011 and on the Board of Governors since 2012.
Prior to moving to Woodbridge, Dan was involved in the PTO of his eldest daughter’s school in Norwalk. Once his youngest daughter started Beecher Road School, Dan jumped right in, volunteering to help raise funds by increasing donors for the Halloween Hoot. The following year, Dan began his 3-year role as Hoot coordinator by increasing the financial success and number of volunteers every year.
