David Ross, M.D., Ph.D., is running for re-election to the Woodbridge Board of Education (2-year term), having been appointed to fill a vacancy in 2019.
David is Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the Yale School of Medicine and an attending psychiatrist at the West Haven VA, specializing in the care of veterans with posttraumatic stress disorder. His primary academic work focuses on the design and implementation of innovative educational resources. As Co-Founder and Co-Chair of the National Neuroscience Curriculum Initiative, he has created novel teaching materials that are now in use at more than 200 training programs across the US and internationally. Similarly, he has conducted teacher training workshops at academic conferences and universities worldwide. Over the past year, his team has focused on how to adapt teaching and learning into the online space.
A second major area of academic work has been studying racial and gender disparities in the educational pipeline. As Director of Recruitment for the Yale Adult Psychiatry Residency Program, he led a team that restructured the recruitment process to ensure equity. He also co-founded a company that consults with residency programs to improve their ability to understand and respond to structural disparities and to identify the candidates who best align with their goals and mission.
Outside of work, he serves on the Board of Directors for the New Haven Road Race and is an avid baseball dad and coach.
