Dining With Susan: Oscar’s Bistro & Bar

Dining With Susan: Oscar’s Bistro & Bar

I am pleased to report that Claudio Sanfrancesco, owner of the very popular Jeffrey’s Restaurant has opened another restaurant in Milford called “Oscar’s Bistro & Bar “named after his business partner Mitch Quinter’s grandson.

First of all, I want to mention some of Claudio’s background. He was born in Milan, Italy and came to the United States in 1994. He worked at the Monkey Bar in New York City as General Manager accommodating many “A” list celebrities. Claudio moved to Connecticut where he was director of operations for the “Hot Tomato” Group in Hartford. He bought the successful Jeffrey’s Restaurant in Milford seven years ago and felt the time was right to open Oscar’s Bistro & Bar. Claudio is a true gentleman and the ultimate host with a gift of making every customer feel like they are part of his family.

I grew up in Milford when it was only a small town and over the years it has become a thriving city with many great restaurants. Oscar’s Bistro & Bar is located in the former location of Sloppy Jose’s Mexican Restaurant in the heart of the Woodmont section of Milford. This centrally located restaurant is just minutes from Milford’s beaches and offers passersby the cuisine of a fine restaurant while capturing the comforts of home. The restaurant’s completely renovated oak interior reflects the rustic sensibilities of the surrounding area while paying tribute to Milford’s storied past including beautiful artwork by many local artists. The family style dining room and cozy bar offer a pleasant and inviting atmosphere.

Oscar’s Bistro & Bar is a purveyor of craft beers and modern American cuisine utilizing fresh and local ingredients. Tasty house made potato chips are served to every table. The menu offers APPETIZER choices of crab cakes, baby back ribs, spicy Cajun shrimp, beef sliders, chicken wings, and mussels. SALADS include classic Caesar, Artisan Green, Caprese, Steak & Egg, and BBQ chicken. HAND CRAFTED SANDWICHES include the Oscar Burger, Grilled Chicken Club, Black & Bleu Steak, Mixed Grilled Vegetable, Surf Village Lobster Salad Roll. ENTREES offered include Fried Chicken & Waffles, Fish & Chips, Salmon in a butter poached parsnip puree & mustard wine sauce, Grilled New York Strip with mash of the day & grilled asparagus, Woodmont Blue Plate Special (house made meatloaf, sloppy loaded potatoes & pan gravy), Pork Chops & Apples (golden graham crusted pork chop, apple gastrique & glazed baby carrots). SWEET TREATS for that finishing touch to your meal include Strawberry Shortcake (angel food cake, local strawberries, coulis & whipped cream), Chocolate Bourbon Mousse (Bourbon Caramel, candied orange peel), Bread Pudding (Crème Anglaise, apple honey sauce), Blueberry Muffin (lemon poppy seed filling, royal icing) Tarte of Santiago (Candied Almonds, nutmeg, sea salt caramel, fresh lemon). Oscar’s also offers an extensive and unique Cocktail & “Beer “Cocktail Menu along with a wide range of wine choices by the glass, carafe or bottle. Finally, some of the hand crafted beer choices include Two Roads2xIPA (IPA brewed in Stratford), Blue Point Summer Ale (blonde ale brewed in Long Island), Stony Creek Dock Time (amber lager brewed in Branford).
