After 10 years, most of the readers know that I am a big supporter of family owned businesses, especially restaurants. The Village Bistro on the Post Rod in Milford definitely falls into that category. Owner Khaled (Kay) Ghura really knows how to do it right. He was born to a Syrian mother and a Chilean father who worked for years for the Spanish embassy in Syria. Kay always had a love of food and passion for cooking and moved to the United States 25 years ago. A Connecticut resident for the past two decades, he currently resides in Milford. Kay’s original restaurant Village Bagel opened on the Boston Post Road in Milford in 1999. After 14 successful years Kay felt that 2013 was the right time to “kick it up a notch” and show his customers what he could really do and opened the VILLAGE BISTRO right down the road. Kay designed the interior that features a very rustic, earth toned old world theme reflecting his passion and impeccable taste.
The original Village Bagel served breakfast & lunch attracting many loyal customers. I am happy to report that in addition to his traditional breakfast and lunch, Kay has created a superb Tapas dinner menu along with a comfortable bar and outside patio. The Tapas menu offers a touch of Europe featuring French, Spanish, and Italian & Mediterranean cuisine. In addition, the ambiance of Village Bistro makes you feel like you are in Manhattan or on a European vacation or just a romantic getaway! Many friends and business colleagues told me that they love Village Bistro and I needed to let the local residents know about this hidden gem.
I joined some friends for dinner at the restaurant recently and the group was extremely impressed with the food and service. David Lopez is Kay’s talented chef who always goes above and beyond for the Village Bistro customers. We had the “Cheeseboard” with three cheeses imported from Spain, with apple, almonds, olives, dried figs and slices of baguette toast, “Seared Scallops” served on a bed of mixed greens with a touch of Chimichurri sauce, “Duck Leg Confit” crispy duck leg served with fig jam over a bed of frisee, “Mussels Marinieres” in a broth of garlic, shallot, parsley, white wine served with house made hand-cut fries. Village Bistro offers over 40 hot and cold tapas choices, along with four salad choices and a soup of the day. All desserts are made in-house and we shared a crepe stuffed with fresh fruit served with warm chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream-this dessert of the day was definitely a winner. Village Bistro breakfast offers choices of eggs, omelettes, bagels, coffee, gourmet tea, chai, expresso, cappuccino. Lunch choices include (in addition to the Tapas) Bistro sandwiches & wraps. Brunch served on Saturday & Sunday offers tostadas, frittata, Eggs Benedict, Crepe Ratatouille, Village Omelette, grilled cheese served with two eggs, Quiche Lorraine, French Toast Napoleon filled with Nutella, topped with fresh fruit and Chantilly cream.
Dining Room seats 100; L-Shaped bar seats 24 – Outdoor Patio seats 35; Weekend entertainment varies offering DJs, Reggae and Jazz bands. Happy Hour Monday-Friday 3pm– 7pm –All Draft Beer & House Wine ½ price – cocktails & bottle beer $1.00 off – Tapas specials.
