Dwight C. Rowland moved to Woodbridge with his wife Rosalie in 1979. They have two sons, Sean (who is the current Fire Chief in Woodbridge) and Scott (an Engineer with Turner Construction) along with four wonderful grandchildren. Dwight and Rosalie will be celebrating their 45th Anniversary later this year. After graduating from Darien High School in 1968, Dwight earned a BS Degree in Mathematics from the Virginia Military Institute in 1972. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Air Force and was Honorably discharged from the USAF Reserves with the rank of Captain in April 1981.
He was employed by Turner Construction Company for over 45 years as a Purchasing Manager and Senior Project Manager on several large projects which have included YNHH Children’s Hospital, YNHH Smilow Cancer Center, People’s Bank in Bridgeport, several projects for Yale University and transformation of Madison Square Garden in NYC, before retiring in 2018.
As a resident of Woodbridge, Dwight has been very active while serving his community. He will be entering his 35th year being associated with the Beth – Wood Baseball League (formerly known as Woodbridge Fathers Baseball League), serving as its President from 1992 – 94 and again from 2001 on where he remains today. Under his leadership, the League has expanded in size and was instrumental in the funding and completion of several projects including upgrades to the Acorn Hill complex (fencing, dugouts, scoreboards, batting cages, etc.) and at West River which continue to benefit those children who participate. Dwight has served as a Babe Ruth League District Commissioner for the last 12 years and was elected to the CT Babe Ruth Hall of Fame in January 2018.
In addition, Dwight has served on numerous committees and commissions. He was Co-Chair of the Building Committee for the new Fire Station, closely overseeing the project that was completed under budget and on time in 2009. He also has served in various capacities on other Town Projects including the Woodbridge Town Library Expansion, Beecher Road Elementary School Expansion, Site location committee for the new Fire Station and was Chair of the Building Committee for Phase I of the existing Firehouse Renovation.
Dwight has been an active member of the Woodbridge Recreation Commission for the past 20+ years, working closely with the Woodbridge Recreation Department and the town in the development of recreational programs for our community. Dwight is also a 20-year honorary member of the Woodbridge Volunteer Fire Association (WVFA), assisting the WVFA with their various functions and events throughout the year, including playing “Santa” when the WVFA visits families during the holiday season.
