As a former Financial Professional and Actuary with 34 years of experience, I wish to express my wholehearted support for First Selectman Ellen Scalettar and her team. Ellen has the skills and experience in government that Woodbridge needs.
With all due respect to Republican candidate Cathy Wick’s positions on financial issues, I believe they are wrong for Woodbridge. The town’s fund balance remains quite adequate and her approach to needlessly increase it would result in unnecessary tax hikes for Woodbridge voters. Her approach to early retirement for town employees would not produce significant savings, since salary ranges are much smaller in the town than in the school system, raising concern about what town services she would cut to meet her campaign pledges. Her position opposing over 55 housing at the Country Club of Woodbridge while being open to a university – likely not-for-profit and exempt from property tax – would not provide the revenues we need and would be worse in terms of traffic and drain on town resources.
I believe Ellen’s opponent lacks the experience and judgment that are so important in leading our Town.
This election is important for Woodbridge. The choice is clear. We need to re-elect Ellen Scalettar and her Team.
