Emily Melnick

Incumbent Candidate, Woodbridge Board of Education

Incumbent candidate Emily Melnick has been a member of the Woodbridge Board of Education since 2013, when she was appointed to fill a vacancy. She and her husband, Matt McDermott, and daughters Sophia and Lucy moved to Woodbridge in 2012 from Chicago. Her daughters are both students in the Beecher Road School Multi Age Group program.

Emily is an Evaluation Consultant at The Consultation Center at Yale. Her work focuses on improving Connecticut and Rhode Island’s child welfare systems. Her prior work included ten years as a program evaluator for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General.

As a member of the Woodbridge BOE, Emily supports a more play-based Kindergarten, increased Spanish opportunities, a healthier cafeteria and a minimized emphasis on standardized testing.

Emily received her B.A. from the University of Michigan and her M.A. from the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration. She is a volunteer team coordinator for the Woodbridge Soccer Association.
