Four swimmers who all trained at the 21st Century early morning sessions at the Deben Leisure Centre competed at the England National Masters Swimming Championships at Sheffield on 27th-29th October and all of them bought home a medal.
Dale Barker (Team Anglia ) swimming in the 55-59 years age long distance events earned bronze in the 1500 metres and 4th place in the 800m with two superb swims. Andy Wright (Stowmarket) clinched a silver medal in the 60-64 years 400m individual medley by a very narrow margin of 0.39 seconds. Wright had a trio of 4th places in the 100m backstroke, 200m back and 200m butterfly, was 8th in the 200m IM and 10th in the 100m IM. Gemma Canon was 8th in the 25-29 years 200m back, 14th in the 400m freestyle, 15th in the 50m back and 36th in the 50m freestyle. Jon Wills in the 50-54 years category was 15th in the 100m breaststroke, 16th in the 400m freestyle, 24th in the 50m fly and 41st in the 50m freestyle. Both Cannon and Wills joined fellow Felixstowe swimmers Adam Spear and Suzanne Adams to power to bronze medals in the Men’s/Women’s Open 200m Medley 120 years + Team Relay.
We looked forward to the Deben Leisure Centre reopening next summer.
