Woodbridge Center Renovation

The Woodbridge Center will undergo substantial improvements beginning in October and continuing in November.  An accessible restroom and ramp will be added to the facility to improve service to the community.  During this renovation all activities will continue without interruption.  However, some programming will occur in other locations.  Exercise classes, lectures, card playing and hot meal service will be relocated to other areas of the Center Building, Town library and the First Church of Christ across the street at 5 Meetinghouse Lane.  For more information regarding individual activities, please call The Center at 203-389-3430.

Breakfast at 10 – Lecture Series

October 24 – Brain Health:  Untangling the Mystery of our Brains and Aging

How can we stay safe, healthy and independent?  The Yale New Haven Hospital Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) team will discuss how to prevent TBI and vital strategies to help our brains stay healthy, Woodbridge Library meeting room.

November 28 – Tips for Healthcare Self Advocacy

October Lunch Menu

Lunch is served Tuesday and Friday at The Center Café at 12:15 pm.  Cost is $3-dine-in meals, $4-take-out.  RSVP is required by noon one day prior.  Meals include bread, juice, coffee/tea and dessert.  10/2 Roast beef, mashed potato, vegetable, 10/5 Chicken oregano, rice, vegetable, 10/9 Chicken enchilada with rice, 10/12 Chicken ‘n dumplings, 10/16 Moussaka, 10/19 Turkey pot pie, 10/23 Eggplant rollatini, 10/26 Shepard’s pie.

October 5 – Flu Clinic

11 am – 3 pm sponsored by the VNA in the Center gym.  Please bring all insurance cards with you.  The CDC recommends yearly flu shots.

October 9 – Hearing, Balance & Speech Audiology screenings

11 am – 12:15 pm & 12:45-2 pm. Hearing health discussion 12:15-12:45 pm with Ronni Mathews, M.S., CCC.

October 15 – Lunch Bunch!

Join in for lunch with friends at Gabrielle’s Restaurant in Orange.  Transportation is provided by The Center’s van ($3) or meet us there at noon.  Self-pay at the restaurant.

October 16 – Lunch entertainment

Jim Sheehan, begins at 12:15 pm.

October 17 – State Senator George Logan’s Senior Health and Wellness Fair

11 am – 2 pm at Warsaw Park, Ansonia.  Transportation for Woodbridge residents will be provided at no cost by The Center.  Please call to reserve a spot by October 10.

October 17 – Fall Ball

With New England Young at Heart 11 am – 3 pm at Aria in Prospect.  Tickets are $22 and transportation is $3. RSVP by September 30.

October 23 – Halloween Cards

With Angel Antonino of Elizabeth’s Home Care 11 am – 12 pm at the Congregational Church.

October 24 – Trip!

To Broadway with lunch at Carmines and choice of show:  Wicked or My Fair Lady.  Includes transportation, tickets to show, luncheon and gratuity, $259.

October 29 – AARP Safe Driver Training

Class at 9 am – 1 pm in the Library meeting room; $15 for AARP members, $20 for non-members.  Reservations are required.

October 30 – Halloween Party!

Lunch entertainment with Larry Batter, begins at 12:15 pm.

November 1 – Fascia’s Chocolate Trip!

Leave The Center at 9:45 am, tour and hands on chocolate making-$15.  Lunch at the Station restaurant in Naugatuck, self-pay at the restaurant.  RSVP by October 26.

November 7 – Bridge Class

Reverse Bids 6:45 – 9 pm with Rita Brieger in the Center gym.  Learn reverse bids and recognize when your partner makes one.  Intermediate level, space limited to 40 participants, $5 fee.  RSVP required.

October includes ‘National Make a Difference Day’— a chance for each of us to consider ways to improve the lives of those around us.  There are many opportunities here at The Center for those who want to be involved.  We’re looking for help with the Friendly Visitor & Telephone Reassurance program, lunch program volunteers, and talented people who might teach classes at The Center.  Please call 203-389-3430 to sign up.

Meetinghouse Cafe

Come try the new Meetinghouse Café located at 4 Meetinghouse Lane on the lower level.  The café is open to all ages from 8 am to 2 pm, Monday-Friday, and serves breakfast and lunch.  During the renovation the café will be open for take-out only.  Please call 203-389-3491 to order or drop in for a tasty meal!

CHOICES Counselors Available

Medicare’s Open Enrollment period runs from October 1 to December 7.  The Town of Woodbridge has certified CHOICES Counselors available to provide counseling and information on topics such as Medicare, Medicare Supplemental Insurance, Medicare HMOs, Long-Term Care Insurance and other state and federal benefit programs.  Please contact Mary Ellen LaRocca or Judi Young for an appointment at (203)389-3429.

On-Going Programming

New!  Poker on Tuesdays, 1-3:30 pm

Join in for a friendly game of poker in the Center Building, Room11.

New!  Tai Chi

With Instructor Gabriella Connolly, R.N. Wednesdays, 10-11 am and 11 am – 12 pm, 9/26-12/12.  Space still available in the 11am-12 pm class.


Tuesdays 11 am – 12 pm at the Bocce court in the picnic grove behind the Old Firehouse.

Exercise with Laurie

Workout includes a combination of strength training, cardio, flexibility and balance.  Bring weights if you have them.  Class is in the Center gym, Tuesday and Thursday, 1011 am.  No need to sign up—just pay a drop-in fee of $2.

Book Club

The book club meets the 4th Tuesday of each month, 11 am at the Woodbridge Town Library.  The next meeting is October 23.  This month’s book is Meet Me at the Museum by Anne Youngson.  New members are welcome.

Art Class

Class begins October 31 and meets each Wednesday, 10 am 12 pm, in the Center Building., room 11.  The class is taught by local artist Graham Dale.  Call to register for the ten-week class—$60.

Friday Movies

Following lunch in The Center’s lounge on 10/5 and moving to the Library meeting room starting on 10/12 at 1 pm:  Favorite Film Friday: 10/5 Agatha Christie’s Death on the Nile, 10/12 RBG (Ruth Bader Ginsberg), 10/19 Won’t You Be My Neighbor (Fred Rogers), 10/26 Three Identical Strangers.

Ask the Nurse

1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month, 11 am – 12:30 pm in the Center’s lounge- blood pressure screenings, weight and conversation with a registered VNA Community Healthcare Nurse.

Duplicate Bridge

Mondays, 9 am, in the Cafe.


The Center’s Wednesday bridge group invites new members!  Join the group for a friendly card game.  No reservations necessary—just come to the Center Building, Room 11.


Mondays and Thursdays in the Center Building room 11and meets Wednesdays, 1-4 pm, in the Town library, meeting room.  Come any day—the group looks for new players and is willing to bring rusty players up to speed!

Yoga for Healthy Aging

Meets Fridays, September 7 through November 16 from 11:45 am -1 pm in the Center Building, Room 16, with instructor Julie Luciani.  The class fee will be pro-rated for anyone registering late.  Class combines seated and standing postures and is safe for all.  Reserve your spot—11 sessions for $75.


Monday & Friday, 10 am, Center Building, Room 11.


Meets Monday-Thursday, the Center gym for group play, 12:30-2:30 pm and Friday, 12:30-3:30 pm.  Paid annual members may arrange playing times with other players through the Doodle scheduling tool.  Annual membership is $20 with a suggested $5 additional donation.  Equipment is available on a first come, first served basis.
