Amity Board of Education
Hal Smullen was born and raised in Bethany and is a graduate of Amity Regional High School. He is a candidate for the Amity Board of Education and brings a strong background in technical network and computer systems in the banking industry and, more recently, in the political and legislative area of state banking. As Clerk of the Banks Committee for the Connecticut General Assembly, he was responsible for maintaining the accuracy of legislative proposals to assure adherence to the joint rules governing committee activities. He was also Legislative Assistant to the committee’s House Chairman.
He majored in Political Science at Southern Connecticut State University with concentrations in International Relations and Modern Political Thought. A longtime resident of Woodbridge, Hal was a strong leader as Chair of the Woodbridge Commission on the Use of Publicly Owned Properties (CUPOP) and fought hard for the wetlands buffer for the new firehouse. He has also served on the Massaro Farm Use Committee.
His strength in computer systems and disaster-recovery planning will help the Board of Education determine the current and future efficiencies of technologies in use not only in the three campuses but also in the support of technical curriculum to keep Amity students in the forefront of technology.
“Amity has always been a source of great pride for our town. If elected I would work to preserve the highest standards leading to exceptional opportunities for Amity’s graduates while maintaining the quality of the facilties with dedication and perseverance.”
