The Head Coach of the Hamden Heronettes Synchronized Swim Team was recently honored by the Office of the Mayor of Hamden. On August 7, Mayor Curt Leng presented Head Coach Anna Montgomery with a Proclamation congratulating her for winning the East Zone Synchro Coach of the Year award for 2019. The award honors one coach per year of the 30 synchronized swim teams of East Zone Synchro who “works toward development of athletes and the sport of synchronized swimming without concern for self-promotion or personal gain, develops and continues to carry out a consistent solid coaching program that benefits athletes and the sport, sets an example in their attitude and ethics that inspire and motivate athletes to make the most of their abilities and potential, and recognizes their coaching ability”. At the ceremony to support Anna and congratulate her were family and friends as well as several past and present Heronettes from towns in the local area. Mayor Leng and Anna were able to converse at length about the sport of synchronized swimming in Hamden, the history of the Heronettes team, and our upcoming 50th anniversary in a year. All attendees were pleased to share with the Mayor’s office how dedicated Anna is to the team, and were honored to congratulate her for receiving this Proclamation from the Town of Hamden.
