Jay Dahya, PhD, is running for a seat on the Woodbridge Board of Education after being actively involved at Beecher Road School as a parent. Jay has served on the school’s Diversity Committee since 2018, and he and his wife have been MAG parents for the past seven years.
Jay is a professor of finance at Baruch College, CUNY, Graduate Center CUNY, and at Columbia Business School, Columbia University, specializing in all areas of financial management and corporate governance. His research is published in leading finance and economics journals, and for his work in the classroom he is a recipient of the Dean’s Teaching Award at CUNY in 2008 and Commitment to Teaching Excellence Award at Columbia Business School in 2018 and 2020. He has served on various university committees and boards that address curriculum, technology-based learning, hiring and promotion, diversity and inclusion, and planning and budgeting, among others. Jay has held visiting positions at Cambridge University, London Business School, Glasgow University, University of Porto, University of Lisbon, and Universiti di Bologna.
“As a WBOE member I will listen to diverse opinions, be fair and transparent in decision making, work collaboratively on committees, help to guide school leadership on future strategy, ensure financial accountability, and selflessly serve the community,” Jay said. “My finance background (provides) unique knowledge of financial planning and budgeting to help the school balance investment needs, that further enrich the quality learning experience for our children at BRS, against fiscal responsibility to all town residents.”
