I am dumbfounded by the comments of the Democratic Town Committee in WTN from January 15th. I must believe that all Woodbridge residents are saddened and outraged by the terrible events at our Nation’s capital on January 6th, but Chairman Laurence Grotheer’s deprecation of 1,800 fellow Woodbridge residents who voted for Donald Trump is akin to Islamophobia post 9/11 when all Muslims were painted with the broad brush that Mr. Grotheer now wields. Similar to Mr. Grotheer’s sentiment, I find it troublesome that someone “so nearby” thinks as he obviously does, although it’s unclear if he is speaking for himself or the DTC. At a time when our country so desperately needs healing, Mr. Grotheer instead chose to use the DTC forum to spew the same divisive and denigrating rhetoric that has unfortunately dominated in the media. As a former democrat, now independent, I wonder how many of those weren’t necessarily voting for Trump but against militant identity politics and the rise of socialistic ideas the left continually foists upon us. Sadly, it appears that Joe Biden’s promise of unity will be DOA on his inauguration day, but perhaps as fellow Woodbridge residents we can hold ourselves to higher standards.
