Letter: Meet Celia Waters – Row A for the ZBA

Hi, my name is Celia Waters, I am a lifelong resident of Woodbridge, and I am currently running for a position on the Zoning Board of Appeals.  Please allow me to introduce myself.

I attended Beecher Road School (a former M.A.G. student) and graduated from Amity Regional High School.  After graduating from Amity, I left Woodbridge to obtain several higher education degrees.  I received a B.A. in Political Science and Sociology with a minor in International Studies from UConn.  I then obtained a J.D. from UConn Law where I served as the Symposium Editor on the Connecticut Public Interest Law Journal.  I also received an LL.M. in Insurance Law from UConn Law.  Just about six years ago, I moved back to Woodbridge to raise a family.  My husband and I have two young children under the age of three.  Currently, I am an insurance coverage attorney representing corporate policyholders and have been nominated for the past four years as a New England Super Lawyers’ Rising Star.  I am often invited to speak for national continuing legal education seminars and have presented on various legal topics over the past five years.

I am a hard worker and will continue to work hard for the residents of Woodbridge.  Over the last four years, I have dedicated my spare time to pro bono work for Lawyers for Children America, representing abused and neglected children across the state of Connecticut.  I am also the chair of the philanthropy committee at the law firm where I work.  During the last two State and Federal elections, I was an attorney volunteer for the CT Democrats – Voter Protection program.  Some of us may have already met in passing:  my first jobs in Woodbridge were working at the snack stand at the Woodbridge Club and then as a hostess at The Fan (now the Woodbridge Social).

In my free time, I like to hike the trails of the Alice Newton Street Memorial Park and walk at the Fitzgerald trails to visit the beautiful community gardens.  I also enjoy frequenting Woodbridge’s small business, restaurants, brewery, winery, and farms.  Now that you know a little about me, I would like to explain why I believe I am a fantastic candidate for the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA).

As an attorney, I have experience in reviewing, interpreting, and enforcing rules and regulations similar to my role as a member of the ZBA.  I currently hold the position as an alternate on the ZBA and believe my experience in this position has prepared me for a permanent spot on the ZBA.  The Town of Woodbridge is a beautiful town that has a lot to offer its residents.  From its award-winning schools, rapidly growing small business district, and senior living centers, I believe there is a place for everyone in Woodbridge.  My goal on the ZBA is to continue to maintain Woodbridge’s small-town charm while also allowing Woodbridge to grow with the times.  Woodbridge is known by outsiders as a beautiful and prestigious town, and I believe such prestige should be maintained while also making the town workable for all its residents.  Please vote for me and the Row A team on Monday May 3, 2021.
