This year I had one of the most memorable weekends with my son. Through Woodbridge Cub Scout Pack 902, we had the opportunity to explore and stay over on the United States Naval Battleship, The USS Massachusetts, at Battleship Cove, in Fall River Massachusetts. The USS Massachusetts was a World War II era battleship that was decommissioned and was going to be turned into scrap metal, until a group of sailors, with a vision, worked to turn it into a museum. As I sat in the ship’s wardroom enjoying dinner where Naval Officers previously ate, it occurred to me that this moment would not have been possible without the vison and effort of those sailors to save this ship from the scrap pile for future generations to enjoy. The Country Club of Woodbridge is OUR USS MASSACHUSETTS. Our Children’s children will not be thanking us for selling this town asset to private developers for high density, cluster housing. We need to come together with a plan to keep this magnificent property exactly what it is – a town asset for our residents. Let’s hire expert consultants to promote the best use of this property for our residents and future generations to enjoy. Go to town meetings, write letters, speak against the short-sighted sale of this property. Once it’s gone, it’s gone FOREVER. Let’s create a vison and save the Country Club property from going to the scrap pile.
