The Woodbridge Rotary Club recently honored Alexandra Ashworth as Student of the Month for March. Monthly the Woodbridge Rotary Club and Woodbridge Social Restaurant partner to honor an Amity High School student. Alexandra, known as Ali, is a student known for her approachable and optimistic nature. “While she presents herself as being easygoing, she has a very focused and diligent approach to academics,” stated Amity High School Counselor Gerilyn Fergusuon who nominated Ali. Her academic record has resulted in a standing in the top 15% of a competitive senior class. Her current course load includes four AP courses and two Honors courses. While Ali has placed an emphasis on her academic success, Ali has also made tremendous personal growth through her extracurricular involvement.
Ali’s extracurricular activities involve her in both the school and community. She is currently co-president of the Teen Teaching and Girl Up Clubs and the Secretary of Young Democrat’s Club. A member of Amity Creative Theater since her freshman year, Ali has had many entertaining roles in Amity’s musical productions. She is also a member of the Cross country team, Junior Statesmen of America, and is a Link Crew Leader where she serves a mentor for freshmen and new students.
Additionally, Ali is part of an acapella group for teens and young adults that participate in community service work, serving the greater New Have area and going on mission trips to Haiti. Last summer, she participated in the Exploring Justice Program at Yale pairing Amity students with inner city students from New Haven to discuss current issues in society and how they impact different racial groups.
