Massaro Community Farm Taking Part In The 11th Annual Rock To Rock Earth Day Ride On April 27

Participants Wanted to Join the Massaro MelonHead Team

Massaro Community Farm will take part in the annual Rock to Rock Earth Day Ride in New Haven on Saturday April 27 and is looking for riders to join the Massaro MelonHead team.  The farm is participating for the seventh year in a row and aims to raise $35,000 this year and build a team of 50 riders.  The goal of the ride is to grow a greener, healthier, more just community through fundraising and participation, with over 25 local organizations receiving support from the ride, including Massaro Community Farm.

The ride starts at Common Ground High School near West Rock Park and ends at East Rock Park.  There are 5 different ride lengths to choose from— a 5-Mile Family Ride and a 12-Mile, 20-Mile, 40-Mile and Metric Century Ride.  The 5-Mile Family Ride begins at 11:00 a.m. with the 12-Mile Ride starting at 10:30 a.m. and the 20-Mile Ride starting at 10:00 a.m.  The 40-Mile and Metric Ride begin at 9:00 a.m.

Massaro Community Farm Operations Assistant and Team Captain, Becca Toms, reflects, “Rock to Rock provides a meeting place not just for people that care about the environment, but also for agencies that are doing good work in the community, bringing enthusiastic supporters together.  It’s very encouraging.”

Massaro MelonHead team member Katherine Korik, riding with coworkers from Contractor Nation in Seymour, comments, “We’re happy to be part of the MelonHead team, and we’re proud to support Massaro Community Farm and all the hard work they do for our community.”

Massaro Community Farm will be hosting a community Happy Hour on Friday, March 22 at New England Brewing Co., located at 175 Amity Road in Woodbridge, from 6 – 9:00 p.m. to support the team.  Anybody who donates at least $10 at the event will receive a ticket for a short pour at the brewery.  There will also be a team practice ride on Saturday, April 13 starting at D’Aniello’s Amity Bike at 10:00 a.m.

To join the team or make a donation, go to RockToRock.org and find the Massaro MelonHead page.  Last year the Massaro MelonHead team raised $31,530 from the ride for parking and infrastructure improvements and was the top fundraising team.  The whole ride garnered over 1,300 participants in 2018.
