May Senior Center Happenings

Put A Spring In Your Step

The Senior Care Professional Council will be holding a symposium and health fair titled “Put a Spring in Your Step” on Wednesday, May 13th, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Thornton Wilder Hall Auditorium, 2901 Dixwell Ave., Hamden. At 11:00 a.m., Margaret Palmieri of the VNA Community Healthcare Physical Therapy team will provide a Sitercise demonstration and a demonstration on how to exercise with assistive devices. Bill Banick will demonstrate Tai Chi.

The symposium showcases services available to older adults. In addition to health exhibits with information, various agencies will be providing services and screenings such as glaucoma testing, blood pressure checks, and body fat testing. Gift bags with snacks, free giveaways and raffles will be available.

The Senior Care Professional Council is a consortium of agencies serving our elders in Bethany, Hamden and Woodbridge area and represents the continuum of care to these individuals. All are welcome to attend. Contact Betty Wetmore at 203-376-9677 for more information.

Woodbridge Senior Center & My Sisters Place

Beginning May 1ST until May 29TH Woodbridge Senior Center will begin accepting donations of gently used or new items including clothing, books, house wares, collectibles, jewelry, and more. All items collected will be donated to “My Sisters Place” and will be used to benefit the “Center For Domestic Violence” of Birmingham Health Care. All items donated are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. On average the store annually contributes over $150,000 to the program, which provides life-saving services to victims and their children

Spanish Language Classes At The Woodbridge Senior Center

Starting on Friday May 8th at 10:00 a Spanish language class will be begin at the Senior Center. The cost of the class is $40.00 for 8 weeks. The classes are being taught by A3P, a division of Aux 3 Pommes, LLC in New Haven & Guilford. The classes will be taught by a highly qualified and native speaking teacher. Exercise Class with Laurie Luce

You do not have to be a senior to attend. All ages are welcome. The 1 hour class is held in the gymnasium on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 3:00 to 4:00. You may start at any time, prior registration is not required. The cost is only $2.00 per class. We look forward to seeing you and helping you to stay healthy for many years to come!

Tennis Workshop

A Senior Tennis Workshop for residents 55 and older is being offered by the senior center in conjunction with the recreation department. Classes will be held at the Center Road Tennis Courts. Mondays, May 18th thru June 29 (No Class May 25th) 10:00am – 11:00am Cost for the classes is $60. Instructor Glenn Englander. Limited registration. Bring your own racket. Rackets available to borrow. No Refunds. Classes cancelled due to inclement weather will be made up. Registration thru the Woodbridge Senior Center. Please call 203-389-3430.

The Executive Director of “Japan External Trade Organization” (JETRO) will give a talk explaining the economic policies of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. These policies are known worldwide as “Abenomics”. Some of the strategies associated with “Abenomics will be discussed.

Renters Relief Program

Applications for the Renters Relief Program may be filed at the Assessor’s Office, Town Hall, 11 Meetinghouse Lane, Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. between April 1, 2015 and October 1, 2015.
