Assistant Principal Nancy White is retiring after 32 years. White came to BRS after being a special education resource teacher in New York City and a teacher on a Native-American reservation in New Mexico. Mrs. White’s contributions as a resource teacher and grade 6 teacher were exemplary and extended far beyond the classroom.
White created a warm, inviting and nurturing environment for students and colleagues. She was often sought out for counsel and well respected among her peers. Her dedication and commitment to her students to be “the best they could be,” regardless of their individual challenges provided endless opportunities for student achievement.
In her role as assistant principal, what distinguishes Mrs. White is her brand of professionalism, integrity, honesty, compassion and ability to serve as an effective mentor and school leader. She leaves BRS a far better place for having been a part of it for 32 years.
“I always say, ‘Cream rises to the top,’ said Superintendent Dr. Guy Stella. “Mrs. White is the crème de la crème.”
To replace White, the Board of Education undertook an extensive interview process and unanimously voted to approve Mrs. Analisa Sherman as the new Assistant Principal. Sherman comes to Beecher after her work in Fairfield, where she worked as a classroom teacher, an instructional coach, a curriculum leader in mathematics and science and as the administrative designee at Burr Elementary School.
During her tenure as an instructional leader, she was instrumental in the creation and implementation of a new mathematics curriculum for PK-5 students. She has served as an instructional coach and a member of the school leadership team where she supported the development and implementation of the School Improvement Plan. Sherman’s leadership experience at the district level includes serving as a member of several steering committees such as the District Technology Committee and the TEAM (Teacher Education And Mentoring) Coordinating Committee.
In addition to her strong instructional background and leadership skills, Sherman brings to Beecher her passionate belief in student-centered instruction, workshop teaching and collaboration among all members of the community. Her beliefs and background make her an ideal fit for the Beecher community.
Sherman is a graduate of Beecher and Amity Regional High School. She earned a B.A. in Psychology/Education from Mount Holyoke College and her Masters Degree in Elementary Education from Boston College. She earned her Administrative degree from Sacred Heart University.
Sherman is eager to begin her work as Assistant Principal and looks forward to getting to know the community in the coming months. Sherman will start on July 1, 2015. Please join us in giving a warm welcome to Analisa Sherman.
