Beecher Road School fourth grade student, Karenna Norko, was recently featured in the National Scholastic News, a magazine distributed to school
children across the United States. In each issue a boy and girl are chosen to debate a question.
The Edition 4 question was “Teach Boys and Girls Separately?” The boy was from state of Indiana and his answer was “NO” and Karenna answered “YES”. Karenna answered was “Having boys and girls in the same classroom can be a distraction, especially as kids get older. Separating them allows everyone to focus more on learning and less on their social lives. Also, some students are too shy to speak up around kids of the opposite gender. If boys and girls are taught separately, they might feel more comfortable participating in class.”
