Republicans Hold Nomination Caucus

Woodbridge Republicans held their Nominating Caucus Tuesday evening, Jan. 20, and unanimously approved their slate of candidates for the Town election to be held May 4.

Running for First Selectman and heading the ticket is Cathy Wick. An active advocate for conservation and Open Space, Cathy serves on the Boards of the Woodbridge Land Trust, the Woodbridge Park Association, and as the Treasurer of the Massaro Community Farm. She has been a dedicated volunteer at Beecher Road School and has served twelve years on the Woodbridge Board of Education Facilities Committee.

Woodbridge residents since 1997, Cathy and her husband Dr. Robert McLean have 2 teenage sons.

In accepting the nomination, Wick praised her fellow candidates and set forth the themes of her campaign: “I am honored to be part of such an impressive group of individuals who share with me the desire to serve our Town. Woodbridge is a wonderful place to live. But right now the Town faces a critical juncture: current leadership is proposing radical changes to our zoning and our Open Space policies that jeopardize its future. Woodbridge deserves new leadership that will reflect the values of its people and restore its long held traditions: the protection of our Open Space, the integrity of our zoning regulations, and a careful approach to spending that saves for the future rather than borrowing against it.”

WRTC Campaign spokesman Chris Dickerson said “we are excited to offer a slate of candidates with diverse backgrounds who are united in being, first and foremost, “For Woodbridge.” This election is critical in determining the future of our town. Our commitment is to preserve the special character of Woodbridge by protecting its open spaces and neighborhoods, restoring sound and prudent fiscal management and opening our government to participation by ALL residents, regardless of political affiliation.

For decades, Woodbridge Republicans have been THE leaders in instituting sage zoning and open space preservation policy. The protection of Massaro Farm, Racebrook Tract, Elderslie Preserve and Shepherd Ridge properties, among others, were all spearheaded by Woodbridge Republicans. Woodbridge is now facing pressure to do something unprecedented – rezone its neighborhoods and sell off open space for development. We urge all Woodbridge residents to become involved in –our small town government. – YOUR small town government.”

The full slate is as follows:

  • First Selectman: Cathy Wick.
  • Board of Selectmen: Tony Anastasio; Joe Dey; Maria Kayne
  • Woodbridge Board of Education: Garrett Luciani; Lynn Piascyk
  • Amity Board of Education: Hal Smullen; Diane Urbano
  • Zoning Board of Appeals: Cindy Gibbons, Edee Lockyer
  • Zoning Board of Appeals – Alternate: Spencer Rubin
  • Board of Assessment Appeals: Ed Weinberg
