Eastern Student Erik Russell-Shepherd of Woodbridge Participates in University Club
Willimantic, CT—Erik Russell-Shepherd ’15 of Woodbridge, CT, participated in the Accounting Society at Eastern Connecticut State University during the fall 2014 semester. Erik’s major is Accounting. Eastern students who participate in clubs/organizations excel in the classroom and do better academically than students who do not participate. Students participating in clubs had an average GPA of 3.10, much higher than the 2.94 average for those students not taking part in any of the 73 clubs/organizations.
Clubs/organizations planned and implemented 322 events for the fall 2014 semester alone. These programs have a direct impact on the daily life of all students on Eastern’s campus. The programs range from social to educational, physical to spiritual, and civic engagement programs, many of which also benefit the local community.

Furman University Student from Woodbridge Named to Dean’s List
Greenville, S.C.—Zachary Arons, a Furman University student from Woodbridge, was named to the Dean’s List for the 2014 fall term. The honor is awarded to full-time undergraduates who earn a grade point average of at least 3.4 during the university’s fall and spring semesters. Arons is the son of Lauren and Jeffrey Arons of Woodbridge.
Academic Honor for Local Resident
Baltimore, Md.—Avi Mahajan of Woodbridge, Conn. was named to the Dean’s list for academic excellence for the fall 2014 semester at Johns Hopkins University. To be selected for this honor, a student must earn a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale in a program of at least 14 credits with at least 12 graded credits. Avi Mahajan is the son of Amit Mahajan and Kavita Joshi and attended Hopkins School in New Haven, Conn. Avi Mahajan, who is majoring in chemical and biomolecular engineering, will graduate in May 2018.
Tufts University Announces Dean’s List for Fall 2014
Medford, MA—Tufts University recently announced the Dean’s List for the Fall 2014 semester. Students from Woodbridge are: Jared Bronen, class of 2015; Matthew Luciani, class of 2015; and Ani Papazian, class of 2015. Dean’s List honors at Tufts University require a semester grade point average of 3.4 or greater.
