The First Church of Woodbridge is holding a Woodbridge Homecoming, a Weekend of Arts and Music on October 19-21, in the Meeting House and Parish House at 5 Meeting House Lane.
The weekend will kick off on Friday the 19th with a Gallery Opening of works from community artists from 5-7 p.m. The artwork will be on display throughout the weekend. The Elm City Girls’ Choir will perform from 7:30-8:30 p.m. in the Meeting House.
On Saturday the 20th from 3 – 4:30 p.m., Nenad Ivovic, award-winning Yale pianist and current First Church organist will present Art at the Upright, a piano recital of Moussorgsky’s virtuoso masterpiece Pictures at an Exhibition. The recital’s title describes Ivovic’s use of an upright piano as an intimate way to first explain each section of Moussorgsky’s visit to ten pictures in a gallery and then perform the individual artwork transformed into a piano composition.
From 5 – 6 pm, singer, songwriter and pianist Chrissy Gardner will perform an honest and powerful hour of acoustic soul music joined by Robert Messore, who has been called “Connecticut’s finest finger-style guitarist.
From 7-9 p.m. there will be a Square Dance in the Parish hall with caller Allan Borzek. Throughout Saturday afternoon people are invited to draw their own alter ego in the Parish House.
On Sunday the 21st, 10 – 11 a.m. Sunday Service in the historic meetinghouse surrounded by beautiful art. From11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. a performance by the St. Luke’s Steel Drum Band.
October marks the 50th anniversary of Boy Scout Troop 907! In honor of this event First Church, the troop’s sponsor, is having a Special Scout Sunday on October 28th. Current troop members will help at the service after which we will host a Reception for troop members, alumni, congregants, and guests in the Parish House as part of the annual Harvest Lunch sponsored by The First Church Men’s Fellowship to mark the close of the annual food drive. We also invite the community to join us for the following weekly services and special events:
Sunday Services – 10 a.m. including our Intergenerational Service the first Sunday of each month. Nursery care for small children is available during the Sunday services.
Church School – Sunday at 10 a.m. the second through fifth Sundays during the school year for children and youths ages 4 and up.
Middle School Youth Group for 5th – 8th graders meet the second Sunday of the month. In October the group will meet after the church service on the 14th to cook for Columbus House followed by an outing to get ice cream.
Boy Scout Troop 907 – meets weekly on Thursdays at 7 p.m. in the scout room.
Weekly Bible Study – Wednesday, 10-11 a.m., in the Parish House. We study both Old and New Testament passages based on the Lectionary.
