Tony Anastasio is currently serving his fourth year on the Board of Selectmen and has been fully committed to his board seat and the Town of Woodbridge, dedicating countless hours and efforts to town affairs. He serves or has served as liaison to the Conservation, Commission-Use of Publicly Owned Property (CUPOP), Economic Development, Library, Recreation, and Town Plan & Zoning Commissions. He is also serving his fourth year on the three-member town Personnel Committee. In addition, Tony is very active in the Woodbridge Rotary where he has served the community for several years as a member and board member and is currently the President-Elect.
Tony and Lisa Oak met while they served as members of the Board of Directors of Big Brothers/Big Sisters, married in 1995 and started a family while living in Milford, where Lisa, after finishing law school, was President of Subway Real Estate Corp. After their second son was born, in 2002, they settled in Woodbridge. Raymond, their eldest, graduated from Amity High School and currently attends Bryant University; Robert is a senior at Amity. The boys are fifth generation Woodbridge residents. Along with Tony’s parents, Anne and Tony Anastasio, Sr., and his sister Cheryl Anastasio, Tony and his family are active parishioners at Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Tony is an alumni of Amity Regional High School Class of ’83 and Niagara University Class of ‘87 where he earned a B.A. in Business including a major course of study in marketing and a minor in accounting. He obtained his Series 6 securities license in preparation to start a career in the financial services industry. In the fall of 1987, Tony began his career with John Hancock Financial Services at its New Haven/East Haven office. Soon after that, he obtained his Series 7 securities license allowing him to offer his clients a complete financial planning process utilizing a full range of financial products.
Over the span of 15 years within the John Hancock family, Tony developed a substantial client base providing financial planning and advice on annuities, health and life insurance, mutual funds, stocks and other commodities. Tony spent much of his time concentrating in the area of Long Term Care Insurance, where he was awarded as a recognized expert in the field. He is now semi-retired.
Tony has been honored as a volunteer by Woodbridge Human Services Department and was named Woodbridge Volunteer of the Year in 2011. After spending over 12 years coaching for the Beth-Wood Father’s Baseball League and Orange Babe Ruth League, he served additional years as a Board Advisor to help the 13 and over baseball leagues from Bethany, Orange and Woodbridge re-unite to play in one league for the first time in many years. Working with the Recreation Commission and Recreation Department, Tony helped to create the first Woodbridge Health Fair and Taste of Woodbridge. Tony also volunteers annually to help the Woodbridge Recreation Commission and Department with their annual 5K road race, as well as their work crews to prepare the Woodbridge Country Club pool before each season.
Tony has logged many hours on volunteer work parties assisting the Trail Master of Woodbridge to clean and clear our walking trails. As a Woodbridge Rotary Board Member, Tony has participated in Bethany Rid Litter Day, New Haven’s West River clean-up, coat and clothing drives sponsored by New Haven area churches, and served meals at the New Haven Community Soup Kitchen and the Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen. He is the Woodbridge Rotary’s (serving Bethany, Woodbridge and Westville area of New Haven) President Elect and has helped Rotary International raise money for many local, national, and international causes. Previously, Tony served as an Executive Board member of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Southwestern Connecticut as well as on the Board of Directors for the New Haven County Red Cross.
