Troop 907 from Woodbridge camped at the Connecticut Yankee Council’s Deer Lake Scout Reservation Camp, located in Killingworth, CT the weekend of October 3-4. They thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful camp and went salt water fishing on the Blackhawk out of Niantic. Social distancing, mask wearing and state of CT and Scout rules and practices were adhered to. Scouts and scouters even spotted a submarine in the water not far from the fishing boat.
They were very successful fishing, catching 47 porgies and 16 striped bass. Since photos tell a story, you can see what a great event this was for the scouts, who were all very tired after a fun weekend. The last photo shows a well-deserved fresh fish dinner.
Other events for the troop in October included a haunted hayride trop, scouting for food, and instructions on building a remote-controlled plane.
There will be a Camp Whiting Workday November 8th from 8 am to noon. The troop will be participating in this to help maintain Woodbridge’s own scout camp, located across the street from the Darling House. Work includes splitting firewood and general cleanup. Toward the end of November on the 20th – 22nd, the troop will hold a campout and Thanksgiving Family Cookout also at Camp Whiting.
