Safe Stance, six-part series of disscussions aimed at preventing falls, will be presented at Temple Emanuel on Thursdays from 11 am to 12 noon, beginning on May 5. This lecture series, presented by Tower One/Tower East and sponsored by Temple Emanuel and Congregation Or Shalom, is free and open to everyone in the community.
On Sunday, May 22 at 2:00 pm the TE adult study group and the Jewish Federation of Greater New Haven present a screening of the documentary, Stateless. In the late 1980s, many thousands of Soviet Jews were finally allowed to leave the USSR. What they did not expect was that the United States no longer welcomed them with open arms. Immigration laws changed, and, unable to prove “a reasonable fear of persecution,” many Soviet Jews could not file for refugee status and found themselves stranded in Italy.
The screening will be followed by a question and answer session with the director, Michael Drob, and members of the TE community who lived through the experiences depicted in the film. This event is free and open to the public, but registration is requested. To register for the film screening, and for more information about these and other events, celebrations and services at Temple Emanuel, please go to the TE website: www.templeemanuel‐gnh.org, or call the temple office at 203-397-3000. Temple Emanuel is located at 150 Derby Ave. in Orange.
