Award Winners Announced! Living Treasure Awards Dinner October 3, 2018
Woodbridge Human Services will host the Living Treasure Award Ceremony and Dinner from 5:30 to 8:30 pm.—at the Center building. The winners of the inaugural Living Treasure Award are: Robert Conniff, Dorothy J. Martino, Louisa E. Cunningham and Leland Torrence, Sr. These four individuals have contributed years of volunteer service to the Town of Woodbridge and will be honored at the Living Treasure Award Dinner on October 3 in the Woodbridge Center Gymnasium at 4 Meetinghouse Lane. We are grateful to the community for nominating a wonderful group of residents with a vast collective contribution to this town!
The evening features a silent auction, program, pasta dinner and entertainment. Tickets for this wonderful community building evening are $35.00 and are available at the Woodbridge Human Services office, 4 Meetinghouse Lane, 203-389-3429. New Meetinghouse Café
Ever in the Center of town looking for a quick and delicious bite? Look no further than the new Meetinghouse Café located at 4 Meetinghouse Lane on the lower level. The café is open from 8 am to 2 pm Monday through Friday and has everything from muffins and coffee to sandwiches, salads, soups, cookies and beverages served at market prices. Although the café is in The Woodbridge Center, all ages are welcome to come and enjoy. For menu choices and prices please see the Town’s website or come in and check out the menu!
Additionally, our vendor, Elaine Marcucio and New England Young at Heart, now offers Elaine’s Home Meal Delivery, a five day per week home meal delivery program bringing hot meals directly to you or a family member. Our 2-day per week hot, nutritious meal program will continue on Tuesdays and Fridays with no interruption. The cost will remain $3.00 for eat-in meals and $4.00 for take-out meals. If you do not have a reservation for the nutritious meal program, food will be available for purchase from the Meetinghouse Café.
Living Well With Diabetes Or Prediabetes
Do you have diabetes or are you trying to prevent it? Come for an information session with Mary Swansiger, BSN, MPH, from Griffin Hospital’s Community Outreach and Parish Nursing Department, on Wednesday, September 26 from 10-11am in the Center lounge. According to the American Diabetes Association 50% of people over 65 in the U.S. have prediabetes, but most are unaware and nearly 27% of people in the U.S. have Diabetes.
Learn about risk factors, treatment options and prevention. Ongoing disease prevention or management programs such as the CDC Prevent T2 Diabetes Program, the Diabetes Self- Management Workshop as well as the Chronic Disease Self-Management Workshop will be offered if enough participation. September Lunch Menu
Lunch is served Tuesdays and Fridays at the Center Café at 12:15 pm. The cost is $3 for dine-in meals and $4 for take-out. Reservations and cancellations are required with at least 24 hours’ notice. Meals include bread, juice, coffee/tea and dessert. Menu items: 9/4Lasagna and salad, 9/7 Pulled pork, 9/11 Chicken cacciatore and pasta, 9/14 Shrimp with vegetables, 9/18 Farm to Table Week: Eggplant Parmesan, 9/21Farm to Table Week: Cavatelli with broccoli and sausage, 9/25 Stuffed chicken breast with rice, 9/28 Seafood Newburg.

September 13 and September 20: Pickleball demonstrations and lessons for beginners–2 sessions 12:30 – 2:30pm with Fred Butterfield and Les Rosenbaum in the Center gym. No fee. Please RSVP.
September 17: Lunch Bunch! Join in for lunch with friends at The Ole Dog Tavern in Oxford. Transportation is provided by the Center van ($3) or meet us there at noon. Self-pay at the restaurant.

September 26-October 10: Art Class! Institute for Learning in Retirement (ILR) Art Class with Graham Dale begins–3 weeks, Wednesdays from 10am–12pm. This is a 3-week class that shows how to follow a step-by-step process to create a painting using acrylics. $30.00 membership fee to ILR paid through firstname.lastname@example.org and $10.00 class fee. The Woodbridge Center’s 10-week art class with instructor Graham Dale begins anew on October 31 and continues on Wednesdays from 10-12. This art class is for all levels with any medium.
September 30: SUNDAY–2017 Walk to End Alzheimer’s–at Lighthouse Point in New Haven. Join or donate to the Woodbridge Center’s team. Go to alz.org/walk and search team ‘Motrin in Motion – Woodbridge’. We’re committed to raising awareness and funds to support Alzheimer’s care, support and research, and we need your help. You can help by joining the team and walk with us and/or help us meet our fundraising goal by making a donation to our team. The Woodbridge Center provides a program of health, wellness, recreation, education, arts and social activities for residents 60 years of age and older and disabled residents. The Center offers a wide range of programming including a luncheon program and a transportation program. New! Tai Chi
September 26-December 12: Tai Chi with Instructor Gabriella Connolly, R.N. 10-11 am. Class is offered by VNA Community Healthcare and Hospice and is part of their grant for fall prevention which reduces the cost to $15 for 12 classes! Class is designed to increase balance, stability, prevent falls and help manage arthritis.
On-going Tuesdays 11am-12pm at the Bocce court in the picnic grove behind the old firehouse. All are welcome!
Yoga For Healthy Aging: Note New Time And Day!
Meets Fridays September 7– November 16 from 1–2:15pm in the Center Building, Room 16, with instructor Julie Luciani. The class fee will be pro-rated for anyone registering late. Class combines seated and standing postures and is safe for all. Reserve your spot-11 sessions for $75.00.
Exercise With Laurie
Workout includes a combination of strength training, cardio, flexibility and balance. Bring weights if you have them. Class is in the Center Cafe, Tuesday and Thursday, 10–11am. No need to sign up—just pay a drop-in fee of $2.
Book Club: Note New Time
The book club meets the 4th Tuesday of each month, 2pm at the Woodbridge Town Library. The next meeting is September 25. This month’s book is Bar Harbor Retirement Home for Famous Writers (and their muses): a novel by Terri-Lynne DeFino. New members are always welcome.
Class begins in September and meets each Wednesday 10am–12pm in the Center Café. The class is taught by local artist Graham Dale. Institute for Learning in Retirement (ILR) offers 3 classes 9/26, 10/3, 10/10 with Graham-registration is with ILR membership at firstname.lastname@example.org. The Woodbridge Center class follows for ten weeks beginning 10/31. Registration for the ten-week class is through the Center and is $60.00. Questions, call the Center 203-389-3430.

The Center’s Wednesday bridge group invites new members! Join the group for a friendly card game. No reservations necessary—just come to the Center at 1pm.
Monday, Wednesday and/or Thursday, 1–4 pm, Center lounge. Come any day—the group is always looking for new players and is willing to bring rusty players up to speed!

Meets Monday-Thursday, Center Gym for group play, 12:30-2:30pm, Friday, 12:30-3:30pm. Paid annual members may arrange playing times with other players through the Doodle scheduling tool.
