Woodbridge Garden Club Wins Numerous Awards At Connecticut Flower and Garden Show

In February the Garden Club of Woodbridge earned 43 awards at the 38th Annual Connecticut Flower and Garden Show at the Hartford Convention Center.  The Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut presented the show with the theme of “April in Paris.”  The awards included 1st place blue ribbons and some of the highest awards in design and horticulture.

Nine members of the Garden Club of Woodbridge entered the design, horticulture and photography competitions.  Four members, Sharon Bender, Cindy Marien, Leslie Martino and Joanne D’Angelo, received 1st place ribbons in several categories.  Sharon entered 18 specimens in the horticulture competition and won 1st place for 8.  Her Japanese white pine won the Arboreal Award and her dwarf mugo pine won the Elfin Award along with 1st place ribbons.  Cindy Marien won 1st place and the Petite Award for her 12” Petite Tapestry Design-The Lady and the Unicorn.  She also received 1st place and the Grower’s Choice Award for her horticulture exhibit, Dracena Marginata.  Leslie Martino won 1st place ribbons for two designs, 12” Petite Design-Medieval Minstrels and Nynpheas.  The Nynpheas design, inspired by the artist Claude Monet’s Water Lilies, also was selected by attendees for the People’s Choice Award.  Her photography entry into the “Song of the Pulley” won a 1st place ribbon as well as the Connecticut Photography Award.  Sharon, Cindy, and Leslie also won 2nd place, 3rd place and Honorable Mention ribbons in other categories.  Joanne D’Angelo won 2 blue ribbons in horticulture.  Mary Ann Tyma won 2nd place in Tablescape design and Denise Rock won 3rd place for her Tablescape design.  Angela Bradley and Susanne Pimer won 3rd place for horticulture entries.  Barbara Bosco won a 2nd place ribbon in horticulture.  Barbara also won 3rd place for her design entry.
