The Woodbridge Rotary Club recently installed Amity Regional School District Dr. Jenn Byars as their newest member. Dr. Jennifer Byars grew up in Connecticut, graduating from Valley Regional High School in 1989. She attended Smith College in Northampton, MA, graduating in 1993 with high honors in Geology. She spent a year working as a researcher for the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory before earning her initial teacher certification from Central CT State University as an Earth Science teacher. Her career in education started in Virginia where she taught Earth Science, Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Science at Wilson Memorial High School. She was also a coach for cross country, indoor and outdoor track, and volleyball. Jenn became an assistant principal at Broadway High School in 2003. During this time, she also attended the Curry School of Education at the University of Virginia, where she received her M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction in 2000, and her Ed.D. in Administration and Supervision in 2011.
She returned to Connecticut in 2006, working for the Ledyard Public Schools as an elementary assistant principal, elementary principal, and assistant superintendent. Dr. Byars proudly joined Amity Region 5 in November 2018 as superintendent.
