Woodbridge Taekwondo Team Brings Home Gold, Silver, & Bronze!

World Champion Taekwondo Team members return triumphant after U.S.A. Taekwondo National Championship. The members of this All Black Belt division team each ranked nationally in the top 10 within their respective divisions. For Freestyle Breaking, Alicia Gopal earned 1st Place Gold, Samantha Cantalupo earned 2nd Place Silver, Anushka Acharya earned 2nd Place Silver, Sophie Grant earned 3rd Place Bronze, and Alesandro Gopal Eesha Acharya earned a 5th Place national rank. In addition, Eesha Acharya, Samantha Cantalupo, and Alicia Gopal ranked 8th place nationally for Team Poomsae (Taekwondo forms performed in synchronicity). Notable placements for Poomsae (Forms) within respective divisions include Amar Sinha 6th Place, Alesandro Gopal-9thPlace, and Alicia Gopal 11th Place in Nation. These local students, along with other WCT school teams in Connecticut, competed at the USA Taekwondo National Championships held in Richmond, VA July 4th – July 10th. This exciting event boasts over 3,000 competitors from all over the United States. National team members compete using the latest guidelines determined by the Olympic committee and a select few are chosen to train and potentially compete in the Summer Olympic Games as representatives for the United States.
