The Woodbridge Town Library announces a partnership with Long Wharf Theatre in conjunction with Fiasco Theatre’s production of Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure. The show will run from November 25 through December 20, 2015 on the Claire Tow Stage in the C. Newton Schenck III Mainstage Theatre at Long Wharf. The library will hold three events around the play that will allow all ages to become acquainted with Shakespeare and watch the play live at a discount.
New York City’s Fiasco Theater sheds new light on one of Shakespeare’s darkest comedies with live music and a dose of moxie. When the Duke of Vienna disguises himself as a friar among his people, he finds the city unraveling in an ethical free fall. Before he reclaims his dukedom, can he help the chaste Isabella save her brother from the condemnation of the villain Angelo? Fiasco’s creative ensemble illuminates Shakespeare’s perplexing plots to tell this singular tale of morality and manipulation.
On Thursday, November 19 @ 7pm the library will host a Behind the Scenes Conversation with Whitney Locher, costume designer of Measure for Measure. Locher has over 100 design credits, served as the Associate Costume Designer for the 66th Annual Tony Awards and is the Resident Costume Designer for Fiasco Theater and Partial Comfort Productions. She will talk about the process, artistry, and story that goes into her work and shed light on the costumes in Measure for Measure. The evening will end with a scene acted out by local actors. This event will take place in the Center Gym next to the library building. Registration is required and can be done at the library Circulation Desk, by phone at 203-389-3433, or online at www.woodbridge.lioninc.org.
For teens and tweens who want to learn more about Shakespeare, the library will host Shake It Up Shakespeare with Ingrid Schaeffer (Chair of ACES Educational Center for the Arts Theatre Department) on Saturday, December 12 @ 3pm for a special two hour hands-on theater workshop based on Shakespeare’s wacky comedy A Midsummer’s Night’s Dream! Participants can try out all sorts of costumes, wigs, props and create their own Coat of Arms. This program is for teens and tweens in grades 5-12.
Lastly, on Thursday, December 10, library patrons are invited to Woodbridge Night at Long Wharf. Patrons will receive a $15 discount off ticket prices and a special reception before the show. Tickets can be purchased online using the discount code “WOODBRIDGE” at checkout or by calling Long Wharf Marketing Coordinator Deena Nicol at 203-772-8242 and referencing “Woodbridge Night” to purchase discounted tickets. Long Wharf Theatre is located at 222 Sargent Drive in New Haven, CT.
Join the library and community at these special events and experience Shakespeare from the pages of a book to live on the stage.
