Author and Storyteller to Visit Amity Regional High School

Connecticut author and storyteller Matthew Dicks will visit the Amity Regional High School library next week to present two master classes in the art of storytelling.

Matthew Dicks is the internationally bestselling author of the novels Memoirs of an Imaginary Friend, Something Missing, Unexpectedly, Milo, The Perfect Comeback of Caroline Jacobs, Twenty-One Truths About Love, and The Other Mother, as well as the nonfiction titles Storyworthy: Engage, Teach, Persuade, and Change Your Life through the Power of Storytelling and Someday Is Today: 22 Simple Actionable Ways to Propel Your Creative Life. His novels have been translated into more than twenty-five languages worldwide. He is the creator, producer, and co-host of Speak Up Storytelling, a podcast that teaches people to tell their best stories, as well as a marketing, storytelling, and public speaking consultant for corporations, universities, religious institutions, and school districts around the world; his clients include Yale University, MIT, The University of Connecticut Law School, Harvard University, Purdue University, Miss Porter's School, Amazon, Slack, Johnson & Johnson, Salesforce, MetLife, Pfizer, and more. He is also a record 56-time Moth StorySLAM champion and 9-time GrandSLAM champion whose stories have been featured on their nationally syndicated Moth Radio Hour and their weekly podcast, as well as on PBS’s Stories From the Stage.

Matthew will speak to students from Amity’s English classes involved in creative writing and literary analysis and will discuss the process for creating written and oral narratives. Students who have prepared stories will have the opportunity to perform and receive feedback from this seasoned storyteller. At the end of the school day, a Story Slam, open to the entire student body, will be held.
