Girl Scout Troop 60865 Earns Bronze Award for Creating Calm Space at Beecher Road School
Junior Girl Scout Troop 60865, based at Beecher Road School, has successfully completed their Bronze Award project, a significant achievement that demonstrates their commitment to community service. The troop's project involved creating a Calm Space for the 5th and 6th grade students at the school.
The idea for the Calm Space originated from the girls' observations of the challenges faced by their peers, and their desire to provide a supportive environment for students to de-stress and refocus. After careful planning and coordination with school administrators, the troop was granted permission to proceed with their project.
The Calm Space, which was unveiled at the end of the last school year, offers students a quiet and peaceful retreat where they can relax, reflect, and recharge. The space is equipped with various tools, such as fidget toys, coloring materials, and calming sensory items, to help students manage stress and anxiety.
Since its opening, the Calm Space has become a valuable resource for Beecher Road School students. The troop reports that the space is used daily by 5th and 6th graders, who have found it to be a beneficial outlet for their emotional well-being.
The Bronze Award is a prestigious honor earned by Girl Scouts who complete a significant community service project. To earn the award, the girls must dedicate at least 20 hours to planning, implementing, and promoting their project.
Troop 60865 is led by three local Woodbridge mothers, Pilar Abuin, Sheri Fitzgerald, and Laura Pierce. The troop has been together since kindergarten and is actively involved in various community service initiatives throughout the year.
The creation of the Calm Space is a testament to the dedication and compassion of the Girl Scouts in Troop 60865. Their project has made a positive impact on the lives of Beecher Road School students and serves as an inspiration to others.
