Letter: Letter Writer is Correct on Speed Concerns
The most recent issue of the Woodbridge Town News included a letter from Mr. Michael Burns about people driving too fast on Newton Road. He is correct; I have observed cars crossing the center yellow lines to pass me on this road, even when I was driving at the posted speed. More aggressive enforcement of the speed limit is needed, especially in the early morning and late afternoon time periods when pedestrians are more likely to be on the road.
I would also suggest that walkers, runners, and bicycle riders think about ways to enhance their visibility. It is not always easy to see people when there are shadows on the sides of the road, particularly in the Fall when there is less sunlight. Drivers are often distracted by their mobile phones, their coffee, or their companions. If you are going to be out on the road, please wear brightly colored clothing, a reflective vest, or display a flashing light (there is one on your iPhone) so that you will be more visible to drivers – even those who are travelling at the posted speed limit.
This is an opinion not necessarily endorsed by the Woodbridge Town News.
