Woodbridge is taking action to help residents save money on rising energy costs while building a more sustainable future. On Saturday, November 16th, the town officially launched HeatSmart Woodbridge during the Woodbridge Sustainability Committee’s engaging lecture on heat pumps.

As part of a four-town initiative, Woodbridge is partnering with the South-Central Regional Council of Governments (SCRCOG) and the Sustainability Committee to bring this exciting energy efficiency and heat pump outreach program to our community. Residents of Woodbridge, Hamden, Meriden, and North Branford now have access to valuable tools and services to make their homes more energy-efficient, reduce utility bills, and contribute to a cleaner environment.

HeatSmart connects residents with expert advice, resources, and utility-authorized contractors to improve energy efficiency and embrace cutting-edge solutions like heat pumps. This program builds on the success of similar efforts in nearby towns and is supported by experienced representatives from People’s Action for Clean Energy (PACE). With their guidance, HeatSmart Woodbridge will empower residents to take real steps toward saving energy and reducing costs.

The first step to becoming HeatSmart is scheduling a Home Energy SolutionsSM (HES) assessment, available for just $75, free for qualifying income eligible customers. During this visit, technicians:

  • Assess your home’s energy performance.
  • Conduct a safety check of your current heating system.
  • Seal air leaks, add weather stripping, and, if desired, install water-saving devices like faucet aerators and low-flow showerheads

After the assessment, you’ll receive a customized report with recommendations for additional energy-saving measures, such as improved insulation, high-efficiency heating and cooling systems, and other upgrades. HES contractors will also provide guidance on rebates and discounts that can make these improvements even more affordable. Many income-eligible residents may qualify for enhanced incentives, including free services and equipment.

In addition to the HES program, HeatSmart Woodbridge offers educational materials and presentations on heat pumps—a technology that delivers superior home comfort while reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions.

“We have seen time and time again that residents benefit from energy efficiency. PACE is proud to partner with multiple towns in our outreach and education program. Our goal is to have every home in Connecticut be comfortable, safe, and efficient,” says Bernie Pelletier from PACE. Woodbridge First Selectman Mica Cardozo shared his strong support and excitement about the campaign: "We strongly encourage residents and business owners to take advantage of this program. By embracing HeatSmart as a community, we can reduce our collective energy use, lower carbon emissions, and create a brighter, more sustainable future for Woodbridge and making us a model for sustainable living."

Residents will also help the community by participating in HeatSmart. Our contractors, New England Smart Energy and Home Comfort Practice, will donate $25 for each completed HES visit to the Woodbridge Resident Assistance Fund.

The Town of Woodbridge strongly encourages residents to take the first step towards saving money and energy. Get more information and sign up today for HeatSmart by visiting HeatSmart.Org/Woodbridge or calling New England Smart Energy at (203) 292-8088 (mention “HeatSmart”)
