Children’s Events

Children's Havura, K-2 Kehila, and Junior Congregation, all led by parent or grandparent volunteers, meet each Saturday. For more information about Saturday programs or BEKI’s religious school, named BINA, consult Education Director Annie Norman-Schiff at anormanschiff@beki.org.

Jewish Women Remember WWII

With the Jewish Historical Society of Greater New Haven, BEKI will show the movie Pride, Honor & Courage: Jewish Women Remember WWII, produced by the Jewish Historical Society of Greater Hartford. The screening will be Sunday, Jan. 26, with snow date Feb 2. This 41-minute documentary uses oral history interviews with seven local women whose lives were changed by the war. Their stories relate the many ways American women contributed to the war effort—from running the family business and managing home front challenges to serving in the Navy's WAVES and working in factories as "Rosie the Riveters." Details at beki.org.

Exhibition Celebrates BEKI History

The BEKI Art Gallery is celebrating the history of the congregation through an exhibition of historic photographs, copies of newspaper clippings, portraits of past leaders and members, and related materials. Images in the collection show the groundbreaking and construction of the synagogue in 1960-1961 for Congregation Beth El, and the dedication when Keser Israel and Beth El merged in 1968. To arrange a time to view the exhibition, consult office@beki.org.

Study with the Rabbi

Rabbi Eric Woodward leads a discussion of the weekly Torah portion most Thursdays. Talmud class meets Sundays Jan. 5 & 12 and other select Sundays. Other upcoming classes include “Making Sense of Jewish Prayer” and learning Torah trope. Consult office@beki.org for details.
